I have a favorite sign pen that I like to use: the Pilot Ink Super Petit. I use this pen to jot down rough sketches. Well, more like doodles, really. The Super Petit comes in variations of fine, medium, and bold, which may sound trivial to some, but to me, it's an important and key point. Variations in thickness like this, ranging from thin to thick to somewhere in between, are just right. Well, actually, thin or thick would be fine too, but having a medium option adds depth to the appearance. However, this typeface isn't written using the Super Petit. The Light version corresponds to the thinness of the Super Petit, Regular to medium, and Bold to thick, borrowing the line thickness from the Super Petit and recreating it on the computer as if it were written with the Super Petit. So, that's the point.
